Three Things You Need To Know Before Your Winter Photo Shoot

3 things to know before heading into a winter photo shoot.

#1 Dress for the weather! Layers! Layers! Layers!

You can have fun dressy outfits but bring other items to change into or layer up with. This is especially important if you’re bringing your little ones. They can’t enjoy a photo shoot with frozen little fingers. Bring toques and mitts and even a few sweaters, jackets and blankets. You spend the money and time for the photos and you want to enjoy having them taken so make it the most comfortable for everyone.

#2 Weather is unpredictable but can be amazing!

If it’s foggy the night before, try and shoot or book with a photographer for sunrise the next morning! It could be last minute but it may also produce the most magical photos with frost everywhere. This doesn’t always happen but I do watch for it. Also, snow flakes can be so pretty! If you have dark hair, either bring a lighter coloured toque or be prepared to have random white flakes everywhere. Both looks are different and make the shots unique.

#3 Take advantage of all of the mini sessions available!

Winter can be a busy time, it can be cold, and days are short! It’s also most photographers slower season so mini sessions are available more often than other times of the year. Take advantage of this. Book a shoot and get at least a few photos for the year. Want portraits for branding? Now is the time! and the price is right! Have kids who are great for a short time until they’re ready to do something different? Want to gather the whole family for some shots for the holidays? Mini sessions are the perfect opportunity! Go into Instagram and type #albertaminisession or your location + mini sessions and see what pops up!

Speaking of mini sessions, I want to let you know about the winter photo shoots that I’ll be offering at a discounted price!
